Jason Kirkpatrick - Interview with Alek from The Walking Dead

Jason Kirkpatrick is an actor and producer, known for 2 Guns , Deepwater Horizon and as Alek in The Walking Dead

How did you get your role in the AMC Series The Walking Dead as Alek?

I have been auditioning for TWD since 2011. I auditioned for the role of OZZY and the producers cast me as ALEK based on my OZZY audition.

- Jason , did you watch the show or read the graphic novel, prior to
your casting to The Walking Dead?

I did not watch the show. I was familiar with the graphic novels because my son read them but I didnt read them myself.

- When you watched TWD the first time do you ever think that you will be a part in this series some day?

I saw scenes and was familiar with the storyline. I had many actor friends who were on the show and in the back on my head I knew I would get my turn.

- Working in The Walking Dead will be a dream for every
TWD Fan, what can you say about working with some of this guys?

It was enormously grueling and we worked long hours. Because of my scenes and character I had a lot of training for the horses and make up and special effects, the costume fitting took a few hours as well.
Working the scenes I got to be in I was along side my good friend Keri Cahill who plays Dianne so it was nice to get to reunite with her for a few days. The one thing that is different about being on set for TWD is that it is so quiet. Everyone talks in hushed tones and even when the actors speak it is so small. The world of hiding from zombies runs prevalent through the whole experience.

Getting to actually have the Walker make up put on and wear the contacts was really cool.
I talked with norman the most, I had just gotten back to the United states from living in Vietnam and he wanted to know all about it for a motorcycle riding TV show he is doing.

- You had just a little part but the Fans know your End. You one of the Victims of Alpha, one of the heads on the hill. How much has the series The Walking Dead influenced your life? Can you
go outside unrecognized ?

It has influenced me a lot on how the next type of actor survives and works. I never thought I would be signing autographs and be recognized on such a large scale. I get a lot of fan mail sent to my agency, and it is always a wonderful treat to open up and receive mail from fans of the show, I have had a few artist give me some of their original creations of my character and that is always really special.
Most of the time people look at me with a sort of slanted look, like they think they know me or wonder if I went to high school or something with them, I have gotten used to telling them I was on the walking dead and they are like Oh Yeah your head on the pike.

- Jason you worked in many Series like "True Detective" , NCIS New Orleans, Underground and many more. Whats your favorite so far?

The walking dead is by far my favorite. But I have a couple new series coming up that was really fun to work on: NETFLIX'S THE OUTER BANKS OR OBX and DC UNIVERSE'S STARGIRL.

- 2013 you worked together with one of my favorite actors, Denzel Washington, did you meet him in "2 Guns"?

Yes I met Dezel Washington. It was one of my first scenes in a major studio film. My scene was with Mr. Washington, I played a redneck American freedom fighter driving a dune buggy in the desert. I stop Denzel's character to see if he his an undocumented immigrant and he takes my gun and my dune buggy and leaves me stranded in the desert.

- Is there a dreamrole or actor/actress you would love to work in/with?

I want to work with Jessica Chastain, I love her style if acting and I am a huge fan of all her movies.

- Are you currently working on anything interesting Movie or Series outside "The Walking Dead" that you can reveal?

Yes I have a great part in the universal blumhouse movie THE HUNT in theaters September 18th 2019 and just wrapped the film IRRESISTIBLE written and directed by Jon Stewart staring Steve Corell and Rose Byrne.

- Is there anything else you would like to let The Walking Dead Fans and your fans know?
