-First of all thank you for your really fast commitmend for this Interview! We are glad that you are taking your time for us Shauna.
Anytime, I’m always happy to take part in things like this.
-How did you get into the Wrestling business ?
I started liking wrestling from a young age; I started watching WWE more out of curiosity and it grew into an obsession. When I started college I had to put it to the side so I can focus on my studies. Then one day I had the urge to watch old Eddie Guerrero matches, this caused me to fall in love with wrestling again. I decided to find a school so that I could train myself and the rest as they say is history.
-What is your family thinking of your passion for the sport, are they worried about your health?
My family support me all the way, for my debut match I had the biggest gathering of supporters and I am grateful to each and every one of them as none of them are particular fans of the sport. They do worry about me, especially since my injury, but that is just a natural reaction when a loved one decides to put their own body on the line to entertain others.
-What can you say about your Coach and how long did it take, that it was clear for you to do the first match?
I started training at Leicester Championship Wrestling in January 2013, after 6/7 months I had my debut at the trainee show. Watching that match back there were so many mistakes, but I do not regret any of it. Through them mistakes I have learnt so much and the most important thing was that I learnt how to react in front of a crowd.
Joseph Connors and everyone at LCW Elevation (Leicester Championship Wrestling’s Training Academy and Promotion) have made me such a better wrestler and person. I cannot thank them enough for the support they have showed me since my injury. It’s cliché but they are more like family then people I train and compete with. #LCWFamily
-Shauna can you still remember your very first Pro Wrestling match and what was it like to wrestle in front of a live crowd for the first time?
My first training match as said above was a bit of a shambles, but being in front of a crowd really helped me out and I have used it as a learning experience.
My first match out of the training school was for LCW Roses (a female only promotion that has since discontinued). It was against Carmel Jacob from Scotland, it was the first time I had ever worked with another woman. Carmel was excellent to work with and gave me great advice. It was the biggest crowd I’d worked with and in some ways it helped. If I ever stop being nervous, I’d be worried because to me it shows that I don’t care enough.
-Who was your favourite opponent so far and why? Is there anybody you want to fight necessarily?
In my last match for Roses I briefly wrestled Leah Owens who I would love to work with again in the future. Also the obvious choices stand out, in the UK I’d love to wrestle the likes of Viper and Kay Lee Ray, they have all made names for themselves and I feel like I would learn a lot from them.
One girl who I will take the time to big up right now is Felony who predominately appears at House of Pain in Nottingham. She has one of the best gimmicks on the UK scene. If you are a fan of zombies and the supernatural then she is definitely one to watch.
-And where did you see yourself in 5 years from now?
I’d like to see myself fully recovered and wrestling around the UK, maybe even Europe.
-Currently inactive due to knee injury .What’s happened?
I’ve had issues with it in the past, from the age of 10 I’ve had on and off problems which doctors never thought to X-Ray. It got passed off as growing pains and that exercise would help. Fast forward 11 years and the pain was worse. I was a year into wrestling and I just didn’t feel good. My match with Leah Owens was cut shorter than I would have liked because I didn’t believe that I could last a full match on that leg.
A week later and still in agony I had a match with another one of House of Pain’s stars, Jenna. During the match I attempted a Standing Shiranui / Asai DDT. I landed awkwardly on my knee, but didn’t realise until a day when I struggled to straighten my knee. I went to A&E and after months of waiting on X-Rays and MRI results I was diagnosed with an Osteochondral Defect, to avoid scientific wording, a large chunk of bone had chipped off my knee cap and travelled from the bottom of my knee to the top. It has now been cleared up that this was NOT the result of wrestling, although wrestling was to blame for the amount of pain I was in as it probably encouraged the bone chip to migrate around my joint.
I had surgery in February of this year to remove the chip, and then had 3 holes drilled into the bone to encourage growth of new tissue. There is still a chance that my wrestling career is over as I am waiting for my body to react to surgery, however I’m feeling great and my knee feels better than it has in years.
-You are from Leicester, England, a land with a long tradition of good Wrestling. Which country you would love to visit next and wrestle?
The obvious answers are there in Japan and America. I’d love to travel around Europe wrestling.
-When a booker or company will book you where can they contact you?
You can contact me through Facebook or Twitter which are at the top of this page.
-Is there anything else you would like to let my readers and your fans know?
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Leicester Championship Wrestling for showing their support. The trainees and trainers of Elevation are phenomenal; they are there at the start of shows to set up and are the last to leave, it doesn’t matter whether they are booked or not, they pay their dues which is very important in this business.
